  • 1953
    • Sumita Optical Glass Production company was established for optical glass melting
  • 1961
    • Started to melt “La” series optical glass to apply for camera lens
  • 1966
    • Started to develop multi-components fiber optics
  • 1970
    • Tbehara, Fukushima factory was established & started to melt supersonic wave delay line glass
  • 1971
    • Developed cadmium free glass, excluding cadmium, pollution regulation material
  • 1973
    • Developed spacer glass for liquid crystal
  • 1974
    • Developed thorium free glass
  • 1978
    • Developed BPG2 optical glass for the high function binocular prism
  • 1979
    • Established Yagoshima factory and promoted sales activity to European market
  • 1981
    • Opened representative office in USA for sales promotion

    • Stared direct pressing
    • Nankai optical glass, Inc. was established to transfer hand pressing dept.

    • Developed aspheric lens by collaborating with Panasonic

    • Develop special shape ceiling glass and the sales activity was started.

    • Developed optical glass “Photaron” replaced by fluorite

    • Sale of the low price fiberscope, “My-Scope,” is begun.
    • Awarded “the 1 st best 25 excellent products” by Photonics Spectra magazine for Photaron
    • The name of the company is revised into Sumita Optical Glass, Inc.

    • “Gadron” abnormal dispersion glass is developed

    • Approval of production and sales of the second class medical devices was acquired at Fukushima factory.
    • Teluna-LED head light won an excellent award of Official commendation of firefighting and disaster prevention scientific technology of 2014.
