Personal Data Transfer to a Third Party outside Japan

Pursuant to Act on Protection of Personal Information (“APPI”, Japan privacy law), we will provide you with information relating to the receiving country of your personal data and measures taken by the data recipients upon obtaining your consent of data transfer to a third party outside Japan.

Your personal data may be disclosed between Sumita Optical Glass offices and/or the recipient third parties for the purposes of order fulfilment, local contact follow-up, etc.

The APPI requires data subject’s prior consent to transfer personal data outside of Japan (the “opt-in principle”), unless (i) the recipient country has been white-listed by the Personal Information Protection Commission (“PPC”) or (ii) the recipient third party upholds data protection standards equivalent to the APPI. The PPC rule provides that for the opt-in to be effective, a business using personal data for its business purposes, must provide certain information which assure that the data subjects can review and understand the contents, including the name of the recipient country and measures that the receiving party will take to protect personal information, for example, explain details if the receiving party does not take measures correspondent to the OECD Council recommendation on 23 September 1980 ('OECD's 8 Principles').

Information about the recipient countries, the countries’ data protection system, and receiving parties’ measures to protect personal information are as follows;

      One receiving third party's obligations and data subject's rights are in line with the OECD’s 8 Principles, and the other receiving third party's obligations and data subject's rights are not in line with the OECD’s 8 Principles.
